University of Birmingham Capoeira Society was started in 2007; and is dedicated to sharing and developing the art of Capoeira. The Society is affiliated with Grupo Capoeira uniao London which is part of Grupo União na Capoeira which was founded in 1983 in Brasilia, Brasil, by Mestre Umoi.
